Over the years we have shared some of the not commonly known skills, interests and talents of individual Brothers to help show that we are definitely more interesting than we look in our black pants and gray shirts. We hope you enjoy the latest of these revelations on what makes us tick!
Following the footsteps of the Carpenter’s Son has been Br. Stephen Quense’s joy since becoming a Brother in 1980. He often combines his engineering background, woodworking skills and deep love of the Lord to inspire the beautiful religious furniture and accessories he creates. Here are a mantle and tabernacle he made from black walnut and oak to help produce a prayerful space in our Boston chapel.
If there’s one activity all Brothers enjoy most after praise and worship it’s eating! But to eat well you need people who have a culinary flare. Thankfully several Brothers, including Br. Gary Davis, Br. Jude Lasota, Br. Joe Donovan and Br. Patrick Reilly, know their way around a spice rack. Here’s Br. Sawyer Phillips’, one of our newest Brothers, cilantro lime pork specialty. Mmm!
Transforming a blank canvas into an original work of art is a true delight and quiet time of reflection for Br. Joe Donovan. Placing his easel and canvas in a peaceful reserve, Br. Joe’s keen eye guides his brush from a palette of watercolors or oils as his artful strokes capture the outdoor beauty of God’s creation.
Br. Jason Zink has read, heard and watched almost every one of Dame Agatha Christie’s detective/mystery books, radio programs, plays, poetry, autobiography and archaeology. That’s a grand total of 95+ works by or about the best-selling novelist of all time! As Hercule Poirot might say, “It’s not a man’s working hours that are important – it’s his leisure hours.”
