Favorite Brotherhood Memory: Brother Jason playing Severus Snape in a few skits was amazing. Incomparable talent.
Brotherhood’s Impact: I met Brother Jason very early on during my first week as a Freshman at FSU. He was so genuine and friendly and made it easy to talk with him. Brother Jason walked with me in my spiritual journey through college and provided me with priceless spiritual formation. I didn’t know how much of what I was being told but also how I was being loved would change my life.
I reflect, even now, of how Brother Jason and Brother Clinton, in particular were able to love me in a way that healed many broken areas. Because I met them at a time where my identity was being formed as a woman and Catholic they were direct influences on how I came to know myself as a daughter of God. Because of their incredible pastoral care I find myself secure in my identity as the Lord’s beloved. I have talked with many women who have so much brokenness because of hurtful relationships with various men in their lives. When I look to see where my difficult areas are, I am so grateful to find that a lot was healed because I had a great father and brother in Brother Jason and Brother Clinton. Through their genuine friendship and care they have shown me the value I have through the Lord’s eyes. Their relationships have also encouraged me beyond belief to know that I can say “yes” to whatever Christ is calling me to do.
It’s funny because in today’s world, just being present to someone is seen as something so passive and unimportant. But the presence of the Brothers to talk about even the most trivial of matters seriously changed my heart and my relationship with Christ. That witness alone was enough to change how I interact with others and how I love.
My Service: Right now, I’m digging into parish life at Prince of Peace in Flowery Branch. I love hanging out with adults so I take any opportunity I can to have intentional conversations. Robert and I lead a small group for families. I also co-host a Catholic podcast “At the Well” and help to put on events and small groups for women at our parish. Robert and I were inspired by the CSU Alumni Retreat to start a parish level Family Retreat in 2020 (pray for that!)
