We Brothers want to share with you the news that we will be ending our ministry in the Catholic Student Union (CSU) at Florida State University (FSU) effective June 30, 2023.
While we are saddened by this decision, we take solace in the words of St. Paul “For those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).
We are grateful for our 30 years of fruitful service in the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, especially at CSU. However, based upon decisions made by the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More staff and the Diocese for a different direction for campus ministry, the Brothers have made the decision with a heavy heart to end our ministry in Tallahassee. We wish the campus ministry success and many blessings moving forward.
We have deep affection for this diocese and the many great friendships - with bishops, priests, religious, laity, and alumni connected to the ministry at FSU. We are grateful for Bishop William Wack’s gracious offer to consider future service for the Brotherhood in other capacities in the diocese, and we are hopeful that we can serve again in the diocese sometime in the future.
Throughout our 43-year history, the Brotherhood of Hope has professed our fidelity to our charism of the All-Sufficiency of Jesus Christ by proclaiming the Good News to tens of thousands of students attending secular colleges. Our mission has brought us untold joy and blessings, and we continue to have conviction in the effectiveness of our vision of campus ministry and the fruit it bears for the Church. We look forward to new opportunities to build thriving campus ministries across the country.
As we look ahead to the future, we are encouraged by the words of the Psalmist, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). We ask for your prayers that His word continues to “light our path” for bringing young men and women the peace, joy, and hope that comes from a loving relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church.
Sincerely in Christ,
Br. Kenneth Apuzzo, General Superior, and the Brothers
