Clean Break: Our New Book on Tackling Unwanted Habits
September20,2021
As the pandemic causes each of us to seek a return of normalcy in our lives, the Brotherhood has focused on the future of young people.
Most disturbing to us in the aftermath of COVID lockdowns and isolation is the increased pattern of habitual sin among college students. Destructive habits associated with long hours on the internet, binge-watching and obsessive use of social media channels are monopolizing students’ lives. Of particular concern is the growing number of students – men and women alike – admitting that their use of pornography is out of control.
Into this breach arrives Clean Break: New Hope for Freedom from Unwanted Habits, a new book written by Br. Sam Gunn. Drawing on 25 years of campus ministry experience, Br. Sam wrote Clean Break as a faith-based workbook to help college students break the cycle of habitual sin.
“As we came out of the lockdowns, we saw our students had lost ground,” said Br. Sam. “We’re making it a priority to help them get free of unwanted habits, especially pornography - to restore a positive vision for the gift of sexuality. Clean Break is a key part of our strategy.”
Written as a workbook, Clean Break takes readers through an honest, hope-filled self-examination of sinful patterns, such as pornography, overeating, social media addiction, hooking up, and binge-watching. Then, through sharing real-life examples of young men and women, Clean Break shows young people how they can disrupt sinful behavior through prayer, accountability, reconciliation and “training in truth.”
Freedom in Christ is the goal!
Clean Break follows the publication of Br. Sam’s first book last year, Builders: The Campus Minister’s Guide to Establishing Communities of Evangelization. Written for new campus ministers, Builders provides a “How To” toolkit for creating and maintaining a vibrant campus ministry.
