For the past 10 years, I have had the supreme privilege to serve as the General Superior of the Brotherhood of Hope. I can assure you that I never expected this honor to come to me. Well, as we know, life is full of surprises and my election to be General Superior was one of those.
My term serving in this role has just recently come to an end. As I ponder this last decade of our Brotherhood’s life and mission, I am truly amazed at all the Lord has accomplished through this small band of Brothers. The number of Brothers in vows has grown by 60 percent. We have added new public universities to our mission, expanding our student outreach by more than 100,000. We have also had a Brother, Monsignor Robert Oliver, serve in the Roman Curia in the Vatican. Quite an honor for a small community like ours.
While I am grateful for the many accomplishments of the Brothers, I am most inspired and impressed with the Brothers themselves. There is a remarkable way they love the Lord, the Church and each other. When people spend time with us, they often comment on the deep and unique level of fraternal life and charity they witness among us.
We Brothers have come to recognize and cherish living a life of “anointed Brotherhood” together. This has been a pure gift of the Father to us. We have not earned it nor deserved it! Over and over again, I have experienced and witnessed profound charity, encouragement, healing and heartbreak together with the Brothers. Honestly, I have rarely seen this level of brotherhood expressed in our modern society.
I pray I have been a leader worthy of these men and the anointed Brotherhood we share. I consider myself most blessed, because while I will no longer serve as a General Superior, I will continue to share in this gift of anointed Brotherhood for the rest of my life!
God Bless,
Br. Kenneth Apuzzo, BH
