Yesterday myself and ten others- two Brothers (Br. Austin and Br. Martin) and eight young men - made it safely to our new home for the week. We will be serving with Rancho Feliz, a charitable organization that does tremendous good for the poor in this area.
Our mission will be to help finish the homes for two families in need. We got to meet them today. If I had the time I would love to tell each of their stories in detail. Suffice it to say, these are good people scraping to get by. Our service for them will be a tremendous blessing in lives.
The sun is brutal, but the evenings are cool. What they say about the “dry heat” is true! It’s a striking difference from the oppressive humidity in Tallahassee!
The people here have been stellar. Our host, Alejandro, arranged for an authentic and delicious frijoles y arroz dinner last night. Today we visited the local orphanage; for three hours we played with the children there nonstop. It’s hard to say who enjoyed it more!
Tomorrow we begin our construction work in earnest. Spirits are high and every man is eager to give of himself for these two families. Our efforts will be fueled by our prayer. As the Scripture says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, in vain do the builders labor” (Psalm 127:1). We begin each day with the Liturgy of the Hours, a time for worship, and a talk that leads into personal prayer.
Can I ask you to join us in prayer as well? Please pray that the Lord blesses each of the young men on this trip. Likewise, please pray for the families we’re serving - Alberto and Cecilia, and Rosa.
