“I want my gift to make a difference.” How often we hear that from donors of all stripes.
In the current cultural environment, what can make a greater difference in someone’s life than to be brought closer to God, to deepen one’s Christian faith, to better understand the eternal truths of Catholic teaching?
That’s the mission of the Brotherhood of Hope.
We experienced this first-hand more than two decades ago when we and the Brotherhood were working at Boston University. (Lou is Dean Emeritus of BU’s business school.) Each Brother we’ve met over the years has an infectious smile and a welcoming persona. The students we’ve met who were impacted by the Brotherhood describe the Brothers as approachable, knowledgeable, persuasive and patently holy.
Although we’re not students, we agree! The Brothers are superb missionaries and splendid Christian role models.
We see the Brothers as being the front line “workers” helping bring Christ more actively into the lives of college students — students who may have drifted from their faith, who may be caught up in a growing whirlwind of confusions and distractions, or who are simply searching for meaning. At this crucial time in students’ lives, the Brothers are awakening their Catholic Christian fervor.
It’s very gratifying to support the Brotherhood of Hope’s noble mission and, hopefully, help them expand their reach. They are changing lives and making a blessed difference.
Lou and Najla Lataif’s support for the Brothers includes their much appreciated attendance at many Brotherhood events celebrating the profession of vows. Here they are with Br. Joe Donovan at our temporary vows event at St. Basil’s in Methuen, Massachusetts.
