A New Exodus

The Book of Exodus accounts the deliverance of the Israelite people from slavery to the Egyptians. God says to Moses,
“I have witnessed the affliction of my people in Egypt and have heard their cry…I know well what they are suffering…therefore I have come down to rescue them…and lead them into a good and spacious land” (Exodus 3: 7-8).
We Brothers have recently experienced a similar call in prayer from the Lord. It is an intensification and confirming word to us in regards to our mission. That mission is to rescue college students and young adults from a harsh, cruel spiritual slavery to the world, the flesh and the devil.
Over the past few years, we have encountered vast numbers of young people trapped in every kind of addiction you can imagine. It is heartbreaking to “witness their affliction” and “hear their cry” for help. Sexual addictions have especially risen to epidemic levels.
So the Lord is calling the Brothers and our campus staff to “rescue them” from this bondage. Thankfully, God has equipped us with some wisdom and spiritual tools (including Br. Sam’s new workbook Clean Break, which is mentioned in this newsletter) to help young people not just to stop sinning, but to “lead them into a good and spacious land.”
God is calling the Brothers to a New Exodus! This New Exodus is aimed at restoring the great gift of sexuality to its true purpose of giving life and expressing authentic love. While this New Exodus is for all the young people we serve, we experience the Lord calling us to have a particular focus on men. Young men in our day have been most deeply and profoundly wounded and enslaved by the habitual sin of pornography.
The path to freedom, like that of the Israelites, is not easy. It requires a determined and enduring struggle against an enemy within and without. I beg you to offer daily prayers on behalf of our embattled younger brothers and sisters.
God Bless,
Br. Kenneth Apuzzo, BH
General Superior
