| Each year on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that led to the legalization of abortion in the U.S. the Brotherhood of Hope gathers students from each of our campuses to participate in the March for Life. | |
| Monica Fernandez del Castillo (pictured above), Northeastern University freshman, offered these thoughts on her experience at this year’s March. “The March itself was so inspiring. My heart was filled with awe as I looked down from Capitol Hill and saw thousands of people behind me, people united in spirit with the thousands of people in front of and with me. There was such a variety of faces and backgrounds, and yet so much peace and camaraderie as we all gathered together to testify to the value of every life, and to the importance of love and compassion, beginning with those most vulnerable. …There were so many moments on the trip where I laughed until it hurt, so many random, hilarious events and conversations: it’d be impossible to write them all down. There were also so many moving conversations, and so many chances to get to know each other better and grow closer. I loved meeting the FSU and Rutgers students. First of all, seeing the interns so happy in finding old friends reminded me of what a gift the Catholic Center is, of how lucky I am to have a place where I have formed — and will continue to form — such meaningful friendships. It was so easy to talk to the students from the other [Brotherhood] schools; I honestly felt right at home, as though I was talking to people from NU’s CC, and that in itself made me reflect on the Brothers’ mission, and the reality of how their prayers and work shape students.” |
