Household Story
A Spiritual Oasis
After a fruitless search for a rental house in 2023, finding that all of them needed a lot renovations – both physically and spiritually – we looked at the possibility of purchasing something close to the USF Catholic Student Center that would serve the needs of our life and ministry.
Praying for God’s blessing, we found a house online that went on the market that same day. It was less than a mile from the campus.
This house had been in one family since it was built; was on a dead end street with a large yard; had plenty of room for our life and ministry; wherever we looked there we saw the presence of faith – an open bible on the sofa, angel statues all around and bible quotes on the doors. The spiritual “flavor” was the opposite of what we had experienced in all the rentals we had looked at.
The owner was thrilled to hear that missionaries might be living in her house. God worked so much that she came down in the price, and even the two real-estate agents cut their commissions in half so that we could get the house!
It became immediately apparent that the LORD was the one building this house! (Psalm 127)
The Lord provided what we needed, when we needed it and where we needed it so we could serve His people.
It didn’t take long for our home to become a spiritual oasis not just for ourselves, but for many others. From large gatherings, like our Easter Vigil celebration with 100+ or weekly men’s nights which fill up our living AND dining rooms, to small silent retreats with one or two, and everything in between.
Our weekly pattern of shared prayer and meals make up the foundation of our household. It’s a true joy when we have guests visit and share in our way of life. And, since we live in the wonderful city of Tampa, many do – especially in the winter!
It is a joy to bring people to the Lord through this house He has built here.
